Occupational Therapy
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, occupational therapists held about 99,000 jobs in 2006, with the largest number of jobs in hospitals. Other major employers were offices of other health practitioners (including offices of occupational therapists), public and private educational services, and nursing care facilities.
Job opportunities for travel occupational therapists will be in high demand in all settings, particularly in acute hospital, rehabilitation, and orthopedic settings because the elderly receive most of their treatment in these settings. Another area for travel occupational therapists that is seeing a large amount of demand is in school-based settings. Employment growth in schools will result from the expansion of the school-age population and the addition of services for disabled students in schools.
A travel occupational therapist assesses, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitative programs that help restore vocational and daily living skills, as well as general independence, to disabled persons.
As a travel occupational therapist you will have the option to choose where and when you will work. You can select from a variety of clinical settings such as large rehab centers, national healthcare systems, and local hospitals. Typical assignments last 13 weeks, and upon completion you can either renew at the same facility or move to a new location.
