Radiation Therapy

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for radiation therapy is expected to grow by 25 percent between 2006 and 2016. As the U.S. population ages, the number of people needing radiation therapy treatment is projected to increase and prompt the demand for radiation therapists. Over the course of the next 10 years, as radiation technology evolves and is able to treat more types of cancer, radiation therapy will be prescribed more often.

A travel radiation therapist provides radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by a radiologist according to established practices and standards. Duties while on a travel assignment may include reviewing prescription and diagnosis; acting as liaison with physician and supportive care personnel; preparing equipment, such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices; and maintaining records, reports, and files.

As a travel radiation therapist you will have the option to choose where and when you will work. You can select from a variety of clinical settings such as teaching facilities, large healthcare systems, and local hospitals. Typical assignments last 13 weeks, and upon completion you can either renew at the same facility or move to a new location.
